President Julius Maada Bio hosts Christian Prayers in Observance of Sierra Leone’s 58th Independence Anniversary

State House, Freetown, Sunday 28 April 2019 – His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has hosted Christians to a prayer session at State House in continuation of the many supplications this week, marking 58 years of Independence of Sierra Leone.

While giving a short exaltation during the prayer session, Head of Pentecostal Churches in Sierra Leone and founder and pastor in charge of the New Life Ministries International, His Grace Jonathan Archibald Cole, affirmed that any nation whose God is the Lord is blessed abundantly. He added that if the New Direction government wanted to continue to make gains and to flourish, then it needed to lean on divine intervention.

“For our country to be named among the best nations of the world, the New Direction should be subject to divine intervention for progress, development and breakthrough. I, therefore, pray for national unity, disciplined leadership and inclusive government, for these were the major causes that aggravated the eleven years of civil war in the country,” he said.

On his part, President Bio said it was always and every time refreshing to be before God and to pray. He disclosed that the New Direction emanated from Divine Intervention and added that that was why the New Direction had not failed in all its dealings.

“As a nation, we had had our share of problems but there is still hope. I believe in Sierra Leone and the people. In the past one year, I have seen that Sierra Leoneans can change are ready to change. I pray that the good Lord will continue to be with us and to provide the quality of leadership that emanates from Divine Intervention,” he prayed.

The President, however, admonished all worshippers to join his dream of transforming the country. He noted that because some people felt neglected, that there were injustices in every sphere of life, bad governance, and that the national resources were shared disproportionately, that was the very cause of the war, during which many compatriots were killed and many destabilised. He disclosed that leadership that was founded on spirituality would be an answer to some of those problems that kept the country in darkness for more than a decade.

“I want to challenge everyone to rise up to the occasion collectively as a nation and provide what is good for the future of the country and our children. I commit this whole nation in the hands of God to continue to guide us, unite us and also continue to provide the sort of wisdom at all levels that is necessary for nation building,” he said.
