The Office of the Presidential Spokesman is the official communication channel between the Presidency and the public. It is responsible for articulating the vision, policies, and actions of His Excellency the President, ensuring that the public and the media are accurately informed on matters of national importance.
The Office plays a vital role in strengthening public trust, promoting transparency, and shaping national discourse through timely and credible information.
Core Functions
- Serve as the official voice of the President on public platforms;
- Provide briefings and statements on presidential decisions, programs, and engagements;
- Clarify government positions and respond to emerging issues in the public interest;
- Promote accurate and consistent messaging on national policy matters;
- Support civic education and public information efforts in collaboration with relevant ministries and communication units.
Leadership
The Office is currently headed by Alhaji Dr. Alpha Kanu, a seasoned communicator, statesman, and former Cabinet Minister. Dr. Kanu brings decades of experience in public service, political communication, and national advocacy. He is widely respected for his articulate engagement with the media and his deep understanding of governance, diplomacy, and public messaging.
As Presidential Spokesman, Dr. Kanu serves as a principal advisor to the President on strategic communication and public perception, while also representing the Presidency in national and international media engagements.
