President Bio Returns From Celebrating The Golden Jubilee Independence Anniversary of Equatorial Guinea

Freetown, Sierra Leone, Sunday 14 October 2018 – His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has returned on Saturday 13 October from Equatorial Guinea’s capital, Malabo, where he joined President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to celebrate 50 years of the country’s independence on October 12.

The former Spanish colony, on the west coast of Africa, gained independence and became the Republic of Equatorial Guinea in 1968.

Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi, said: “His Excellency’s invitation did not only come as one of the many African leaders to attend the independence anniversary commemoration, but as Chair of the African Union Committee of Ten Heads of State and Government on the United Nations Security Council Reforms (C-10), President Bio went to celebrate with his colleague, President Mbasogo, as a key member on the C-10”.

The leadership of the smallest African country to be a member of the United Nations, and the third largest oil exporter in Sub-Saharan Africa, has been very supportive of the chairmanship of President Bio, who recently made a very powerful call to address the historical injustice of the Security Council at the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, USA.
