|SLANGO Calls President Koroma|
A cross-section of Board Members of the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organizations has called on President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at State House. The visit was to inform the President about the operations and activities of SLANGO in the country.
The Vice Chairman of SLANGO Andrew Conteh said the organization was established sixteen years ago with the mandate to foster cooperation, networking and facilitate the building of capacity within the NGO sector.
He added that they are widely seen as the interface between Government and NGOs.
He requested the President to help them with a suitable office space within the city and a land in the Western Area and the Provinces where they can construct a National Headquarters and Regional offices.
He commended NGOs for the services provided where Government do not have access.
President Koroma said Government consider SLANGO as partners in development and encouraged them to effect better control and harmonization of their programs in their areas of operations. He also informed them of the initiation of the Smallholder Commercialization Programme, which will greatly enhance the livelihood of farmers and improve agricultural productivity.
