Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday 23 August visited President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma at State House in Freetown to express, on behalf of the president of IMF, sincere condolences for the August 14 tragedy.

According to Madam Iyabo Masha, the IMF is deeply concerned about the calamity caused by the mudslide and flooding, maintaining that the IMF president Christine Lagarde has assured President Koroma that in the context of the forthcoming IMF mission, the Bank would make an assessment of the economic impact of the catastrophe and would decide in what way the institution could assist government in the recovery process.

Welcoming the IMF representative, President Koroma thanked the institution for the kind sentiments and appreciated the pledge of assessment and possible intervention in September during the institution’s next mission in Sierra Leone, and duly updated Madam Masha on government’s ongoing emergency response and recovery efforts
